Merriam- Webster Dictionary defines “Dream” as a series of thoughts, visions, or feelings that happen during sleep. It further defines it as an idea or vision that is created in your imagination and that, it is not real. Another definition is something that you have wanted very much to do, be, or have for a long time.
In Greek mythology, Morpheus was the God of Dreams, the one with the amazing ability to appear in dreams of mortals in any form. As his name implies, the Greek word “morphe” means “form”- he was the one who shaped and formed the dreams.
Let me take you on a quick journey into the Bible and introduce you to Joseph. He was regarded as a dreamer. One time, Joseph had a dream. The dream was about how his bundle of wheat stood up while they were on the field and his brother’s bundles of wheat gathered around his and bowed to it. When he narrated the dream to his brothers, they asked him “Do you really think you will rule over us?
Joseph had another dream where he saw the sun, moon and eleven stars bowing down to him. When he told his father about the dream, his father scolded him and asked “What kind of dream is this? Do you really believe that your mother, brothers and I will bow to you?”
You see, just like Joseph we all have dreams. Dreams that are capable of changing the dynamics of this world. Dreams that can change the status quo. Dreams that can bring someone hope.
I believe all these dreams were embedded in us by God in order to make life habitable for us. While growing up we all had big dreams of becoming pilots, Presidents, Astronauts etc. But let’s pause and ask ourselves . Are we what we dreamed of becoming some few years ago? Are we on the path to achieving the dreams we desired? I believe most of our answers will be in the negative.

We all have the Joseph kind of parents and brothers in our lives. They look down on our dreams, make a mockery of us thereby ending up discouraging us. We enslave ourselves to their dictates. I call these people dream killers. They are like fire extinguishers that extinguish your dreams the moment you light its flame. They equate the power of your dreams to your age. But the question is; when are you going to break free from the shackles of these dream killers? How long are you going to allow people to define your dreams for you? When you cease to dream, you cease to live. (Malcolm Forbes).

If you still don’t believe in the power dreams, let me take you on a journey into the life of someone I greatly admire.

Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple Computer Inc.
His name is Steve Jobs the Co-founder of Apple Computer Inc. He had a dream of getting a computer in the hands of everyday people. I hope this story will inspire you to revive that dream you gave up on. Your dream might be the key to solving some problems that have plagued your country or community for so many years. Chase after your dreams and make it happen. The World is waiting on you for that dream so make it happen. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the Beauty of their dreams”. Let’s be the generation that makes it happen.
