What is a talent?
A talent is the skill that someone is born with. A talent is also known as a gift. A talent is a skill that someone naturally has to do something that is hard(wikipedia.com).
The first thing we need to know about talent is that it is a natural gift from our maker. When God created us, He deposited some gifts in us. This gift is supposed to help us achieve our purpose on earth. Talent gives you the ability to do something. Everyone is born with a talent. The problem is how to identify that talent and use it appropriately. We will briefly go through some of the ways you can identify your talent.
1. Focus on your passion.
Passion is a feeling of intense enthusiasm towards or compelling desire for something. If you want to identify your talent, the first thing you should look out for is what you are passionate about. What are you so enthusiastic about? Is it music? Is it dancing? Is it cracking jokes? Is it helping others solve a problem?. Your passion in life has some correlation with your talent. So look deep within yourself and see what exactly you are passionate about. That is the first step towards identifying your talent.
2. Focus on the things you love doing effortlessly.
For every human being, there is always that one thing that you have the natural ability to do without breaking a sweat. That thing that even if they woke you up from sleep, you can still do it without much preparation. Does singing come easily to you? Do you find it so easy to make people laugh? Does teaching others come easily to you? Is it acting? Or playing a particular sport?. You need to sit down and study yourself and see the thing or things that you can do easily even though other people struggle with that same thing. Chances are that, one of those things is your true talent. Remember a talent is natural, so it has to be something you don't struggle at doing.
3. Pray.
Last but not least, if you really want to identify your talent, then you need to ask the one who created you. All talents come from God. So the surest way to identify your talent is to ask the one who gave it to you. Pray and ask God to help you know and understand what your talent is. If you pray earnestly and consistently, God will definitely show you what your talent or talents are.
I hope these points will help you identify your talent. In our next Youth Corner discussions, we will look at how you can develop this talent after you identify it.
