BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: "GO AND SIN NO MORE" SCRIPTURE: JOHN 8:11 "She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

The story of the woman caught in adultery is quite a popular one. This story reveals two things: FORGIVENESS AND REPENTANCE. Forgiveness and repentance aren't the same.

Many a time, when we sin, all we do is to plead with God to forgive us. That's all. We don't actually repent. God is merciful. He is a forgiving God. When we sin and go to Him with a contrite heart, He will forgive us. But repentance is simply more than just asking God to forgive us.

In John 8:11, Jesus was basically telling the adulterous woman that she is forgiven but she must go and repent. "Go and sin no more" simply means REPENT. God's forgiveness and our repentance go hand in hand.

God desires that we actually repent from all the sins that we come to Him for forgiveness. Why did the Lord instruct the woman to go and sin no more? Because repentance is very important in our relationship with God.

God doesn't forgive sins only for us to go back to the same sins again. No. Anytime God forgives our sins, it comes with the instruction: GO AND SIN NO MORE. If "go and sin no more" wasn't possible, Jesus wouldn't have told the woman.

Forgiveness simply means you have regretted your sin and you want God to forgive you. Repentance means turning away from the sin. It means you have completely forsaken the sin. We cannot walk with God if we don't learn to truly repent from our sins. Asking for forgiveness isn't enough. We must change.
