Breakfast With Christ - The Salt of The Earth

BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: THE SALT OF THE EARTH SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:13a " You are the salt of the earth..."

In our scripture for today, Jesus described the believer as the salt of the earth. So what does it mean to be the salt of the earth?

Salt is one of the most important elements in this world. In ancient times, salt was used as a currency to pay soldiers. In fact the term "salary" comes from the word 'salt'. Kingdoms rose and fell because of salt.

Salt was also a major trading commodity in the days of old. People were also immensed in salty water to heal them of certain illnesses. In the kitchen, salt is used to preserve food and to give food flavor.

EXTRACTION OF SALT Salt is extracted from the sea water through heat. The water evaporates leaving the salt. As Christians, for us to become the salt of the world that Jesus described us to be, we need to be prepared to be extracted from this world through heat.

God will take you through the process of heating for you to become a salt of the world. God's heating process is very uncomfortable and sometimes you might feel like giving up but don't. You need to endure all the troubles and temptations if you want to be a salt of the world for Jesus.

IMPORTANCE OF SALT Salt is used for preserving food. As Christians, we are to preserve this world for God. This world is crumbling, we are to be witnesses of Christ to this dying world. We need to preach the Gospel of Jesus to this world so that the world can be saved.

Salt is also used to give food a flavour. As Christians, we are the flavour of this world. Salt gives food taste, we as the salt of the world are to make this world a better place.

Child of God, Jesus wants you to be the salt of the world. Are you really being the salt of the world? Stay blessed!

Prayer line: Lord, please help me to be the salt of the world that you described me to be. Amen
