BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: HOW TO PLEASE GOD SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 8:8 "Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God".
In Romans 8:8, the Bible tells us that those who are still under the control of their "flesh" cannot please God. What does it mean to be under the control of the flesh? The flesh in this context refers to our sinful nature. So basically, if you are still being controlled by your sinful nature, you cannot please God.
THE UNSAVED One group of people who are still under the control of their flesh is those who are not yet born again. Since sin entered into this world, anyone born of a woman is automatically a sinner. The person is an alien to the family of God. A sinner has only one destiny: eternal condemnation.
The only remedy for our sinful nature is to allow the Blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse us. The truth is it is completely impossible to please God if we are still living in sin. There is nothing a sinner can do to please God except to repent.
THE CARNAL CHRISTIAN The second group of people who are still under the control of their flesh is the carnal Christian. The carnal Christian refers to those who are born again but are still being controlled by their flesh.
The carnal Christian follows God but he/she is still not led by the spirit of God. The carnal Christian hasn't killed his flesh and it's desires. The carnal Christian responds to the desires of his flesh. We can never please God so long as we are in this state.
THE LIFE THAT PLEASES GOD "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit."(Galatians 5:25) The only way to please God is if we live by the Spirit of God. Once you are born again, you must be led by the Spirit of God. We must crucify the acts of our flesh and live in the Holy Spirit. To live in the Spirit is to walk in holiness. Until we are able to do this, we cannot please God.
The question is: are you being led by the flesh or you are still being controlled by your sinful flesh?
