BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 26:41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation".
In the garden of Eden, Satan tempted Eve through a serpent. But in this day, Satan doesn't tempt us using a snake neither does he come to us dressed in some scary dress wearing a horn.
Now he does the temptation through persuasive mind narrations. The main purpose of this is to get us to disobey God and sin. So how do we overcome temptations?
WATCH AND PRAY In our scripture for today, Jesus gave us one of the surest ways of overcoming temptations. He said we should 'watch and pray'. 'Watch' means we should be alert, vigilant and be aware of the devil's schemes and deception. Prayer gives us strength to overcome temptations. A prayer-less Christian is likely to easily fall into temptations.
FOCUS ON THE WORD OF GOD When Satan tempted Jesus Christ in the wilderness(Luke 4:1-13), Jesus used scripture verses to defeat the devil. We cannot overcome temptations if we lack knowledge of God's Word.
If you want to achieve daily victories over temptations, then you need to arm yourself with the Word of God. There is power in God's word.
FLEE In Potiphar's house, Joseph was faced with a serious temptation(Genesis 39). Potiphar's wife was forcing him to commit adultery with her. Joseph did something we all need to learn from, he flee.
If you don't want to fall for a temptation, just flee from it. It is that simple. It sounds easy but it takes courage to flee especially when your flesh desires that thing you are fleeing from.
Brethren, our Christian life is a life of battles and victories. One battle we will all fight everyday is the battle to overcome temptations. We need to keep focused on Christ and continue to pray for the strength to overcome all temptations. Stay blessed!
Prayer line: Lord, please give me the strength to overcome temptations. Amen
