BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: THE KINGDOM OF GOD SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God..."
Welcome to BWC. Matthew 6:33 is one of the most quoted scriptures among Christians. This scripture like many other scriptures in the Bible states the notion of the "Kingdom of God". What is the Kingdom of God? Over the next few days, we will be focusing on the "Kingdom of God".
WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD? The kingdom of God is a very important element in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ often mentioned and taught about the kingdom of God. This is contained in the four Gospels. The term "Kingdom of God" is synonymous with the term "Kingdom of Heaven" as used in Matthew.
The Kingdom of God is not a physical dominion. When Jesus said that we pray should pray for the kingdom of God to come( Matthew 6:10), He wasn't referring to a physical kingodm.
Broadly speaking, the Kingdom of God refers to God's sovereign rule over all the universe. God created the whole universe, so He obviously has authority over the whole universe. However, in the Gospel of Christ, the term "Kingdom of God" refers to a spiritual dominion where the Supreme Will of God is established.
The Kingdom of God is not a church. The Kingdom of God is not a physical territory. The Kingdom of God is a spiritual dominion headed by the King of kings, God. It is God's utmost desire that His Kingdom be established in our hearts.
When Jesus said "seek ye first the kingdom of God", He was talking about the Will of God being established in our lives.
Membership of the Kingdom of God isn't automatic. The Kingdom of God must be received. In our next BWC in this series, we will look at how we can become members of the Kingdom of God.
