BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: DESIRING GOD
SCRIPTURE: JAMES 4:8
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
Welcome to BWC. Today we start a series on "Desiring God". Our greatest desire has to be God. He has to be the Focus of our lives. Our lives need to revolve around our Heavenly Father. Today, we look at how we can desire fellowship with God.
THE DESIRE FOR FELLOWSHIP
From the events between God and Adam in the Garden of Eden up to now, it is obvious that God wants to have a closer fellowship with humans. Everything God did and continues to do are all aimed at bringing humanity closer to Himself.
God always wants us to be closer to Him. So in Matthew 6:33, Jesus told us to seek first the Kingdom of God. In James 4:8, James told us to draw closer to God. In the book of John, Jesus explained how He is our good shepherd. One thing is clear, what God wants is for us to get to know Him and have a close relationship with Him.
Our first desire as believers must be to develop a personal relationship with God. We need to be in constant fellowship with God. We need to get to know God more. This has to be our priority. There has to be some hunger in us to get to know God more.
We must take steps to build a very close relationship with God through Jesus Christ. God has to be our focus. We must live to please only Him. Everything we do must be centered around God. God has to be part of our relationships, our careers and basically everything we do.
So how do we build a fellowship with God? First, we must surrender wholly to Jesus Christ. We must get born again. Second, we must develop a personal prayer and Bible studies life. There is no relationship without communication. We must make it a point to always talk to God. We must also read and meditate on His Word regularly.
Some of us are not hungry enough for God that's why we don't know Him. We hardly pray or even read our Bibles. We cannot build a personal relationship with God with this attitude. God over everything else. God over personal pleasure. God over money. Let us hunger and thirst after righteousness and God shall fill us.
