TOPIC: IT IS WELL
SCRIPTURE: PSALM 46:1
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble".
Welcome to BWC. What do you do when you feel God has betrayed you by allowing difficult situations to come your way? What do you do when things go wrong in your life? Have you ever felt like God has forsaken you? Today, we look at the story of a man called Horatio Spafford.
Spafford was a successful business man and a devoted Christian who lived in Chicago with His wife Anna in the mid 19th century. In 1871, Spafford lost his son to pneumonia. In that same year, He lost most of his business in the great Chicago fire.
In 1873, Spafford's wife and their four daughters, were on a ship bound for Europe. Unfortunately the ship had an accident on the sea and Spafford lost all his four daughters through the accident. His wife survived. In his moment of grief, Horatio Spafford wrote the words of the famous hymn "It Is Well With My Soul".
"When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul."
What will make a man who has lost everything declare that "It is well with my soul"? Horatio was a Christian, he could have written a song blaming God for his misfortune. Yet he wrote the song "It is Well with My Soul". Few years later, God rewarded Horatio with three children.
Throughout our Christian journey on this earth, we will face endless troubles. Some will hit us very hard. It will seem like God has forsaken us, we might feel like giving up on God. But even in the midst of all that we need to maintain our faith in God because it is well with us.
It is difficult to say it is well when nothing looks well. But Spafford didn't write "It is well" because everything was well with him, but because he believed God is with him so it is well. If you lose everything but you still have God, then it is well with you.
If you are a Christian, God won't allow you to go though any thing unless He has a good reason. If God is breaking you, then He has a reason for it. Maintain your faith in God and believe that It Is Well with your soul. No matter what the situation may be, It is well with you. All shall pass, God will never forsake you. Stay blessed.

Lord, I believe it is well with me. Thank you for giving me strength in the midst of my troubles. Amen
