BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: HIDDING FROM GOD

SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 3:10

"He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

Welcome to BWC. Have you ever felt you don't deserve God's love because of a sin you might have committed? Have you ever tried to hide from God because you felt you were unworthy of His presence? Well, that was how Adam felt when he committed humanity's first sin against God.

In the beginning, man had a perfect peaceful relationship with God until the serpent came in and Adam and Eve fell. Their first action was to try to hide from God. God is omnipresent, so how can you hide from Him? They might have felt unworthy of God's presence. This story mirrors the way some of us Christians behave today.

*When we sin, our first instinct isn't to repent but to wallow in the pit of self guilt. We feel unworthy of God's gracious love. We feel we have disappointed God. We feel we have failed miserably. We wonder how we could have committed that sin. It is even worse if it is a sin we have once repented from. Habitual sins. We simply don't feel like going back to God to repent again.

Let's look at how God reacted to Adam's sin. First God pronounces His punishment for the first couple. But even in the midst of God's anger, we see His amazing love. God took the skin of animals and clothed them. That is how amazing God's love is.

For us today, all our condemnation and punishment was placed on Jesus Christ on the Cross. Adam was punished for his sins, for us, Jesus Christ was punished for our sins. When we sin, we encounter God's love not his anger. God hates sin but not the sinner.

Trying to hide from God when we sin is trying to hide from God's unfailing love. Can anyone refuse to go to the hospital simply because he/she has fallen sick too many times? So why do we fail to go back to God to repent simply because we have fallen too many times? Can a man hide from God? No. Sin isn't desirable but when we sin, we need to hide in God's love instead of trying to hide from Him. We need to repent.

You might have done something you shouldn't have done. You might have fallen to that sin again. You might be feeling bad and guilty. Please know that God isn't angry with you. God loves you and He wants you to repent and come to Him. Don't feel condemned, Jesus died for your condemnation. Don't live in the guilt of unrepented sin. Run to God for Mercy and forgiveness. God indeed loves us. Stay blessed.
