TOPIC: HOW TO ENDURE AFFLICTIONS

SCRIPTURE: 1 TIMOTHY 2:3

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."

Welcome to BWC. This is the third part in our series "The trials of the believer". No one likes to go through difficult times, unfortunately, challenges are part of our Christian walk. We can't escape from them. A lot of Christians backslide because they are unable to endure the trials they face.

In Apostle Paul's letter to the young Timothy, Paul advised Him to endure hardness/afflictions. It is important we note that Paul didn't ask Him to pray against hardness. Instead, he asked Timothy to "endure". We need to build the character of endurance. So how do we endure afflictions?

STAY CLOSE TO GOD

We need God at all times. But we need Him more when times are hard. In our most difficult moments in life, we need to stay closest to our Lord. All our help cometh from God.

There is no need to stop praying because you are going through problems. Be steadfast in prayer and Bible studies and the Lord shall give you strength to endure.

TRUST IN GOD

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all". Psalm 34:19. When you are going through a difficult time, you need to trust in God to deliver you. There is nothing too hard for God. He has never failed before. If you can put your trust in Him, He won't fail you.

ENCOURAGE YOURSELF

You won't always get people to encourage you when you are facing a crisis. You need to learn to encourage yourself in the Lord. When you feel like giving up, tell yourself things like "it is well", "God is with me", "God will not fail me".

Be positive in your speech when you are facing a problem. Don't get negative and begin to pity yourself. Self pity is a sin.

We are the children of God. We have God, the world doesn't. When we are going through difficult situations, we need to understand that God is with us. Instead of worrying and complaining, let's pray and put our trust in the Lord who never fails.
