BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: WHY DOES GOD ALLOW AFFLICTIONS?
SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 4:8-9
" We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"
Welcome to BWC. One of the most perplexing questions we don't easily find answers to is "why does God allow His children to go through afflictions?". It seems quite confusing as to why God allows Christians to go through difficulties. There is however a purpose for everything that God does.
God doesn't allow us to go through trials in order to punish us. Trials are part of the believer's journey to eternal glory. A good follower of Christ must be faithful in afflictions and endure it. So let's look at some reasons God allows us to go through afflictions sometimes.
AFFLICTIONS DRAW US CLOSER TO GOD
Many of us care less or don't care at all about getting serious with God until we are faced with a life crisis. Difficult times have a way of getting us to God. There are some pains we go through that God won't take away until He gets our full attention. God sometimes allows afflictions to get our attention.
AFFLICTIONS TEST OUR FATIH
It is easy to declare your faith in God when everything seems fine with you. The real test of our faith in God comes when we are going through difficult times. Afflictions produce patience and endurance in us. Afflictions test our faith in God. Can you still have faith in God when you are facing a crisis and God seems silent?
AFFLICTIONS PRODUCE TOTAL DEPENDENCY
Difficult times teach us to totally depend on God. It is vanity putting our faith in humans. Our help cometh from God. God wants us to trust Him and depend on Him alone.
Whilst Satan brings afflictions our way to destroy us, God uses these afflictions to produce good works in us. God is not wicked, He is always close to us to deliver us from our afflictions. God doesn't afflict us, He only allows it to achieve His divine purpose in our lives.
In our next breakfast, we look at how to endure afflictions in the Lord.
