TOPIC: A STAND FOR HOLINESS

SCRIPTURE: DANIEL 1:8

"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank..."

Welcome to BWC. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah were among captives taken to Babylon to serve. As part of their training, they were to eat the best foods served from the king's table. But Daniel and his friends decided not to eat foods dedicated to idols. They took a stand for holiness.

God commanded us in 1 Peter 1:16 to be holy. To be holy is to abstain from sin and be consecrated to God. Holiness isn't a gift from God. Holiness is a daily choice we make to reject sin and live for God. To be holy is a daily decision every Christian must make.

Daniel and his friends were offered tasty foods offered to idols. But they rejected it because it will defile their bodies. If we want to be holy for God, there are lot of things in this world we must abstain from. Not everything is normal for a believer. We must choose to reject sin in every form.

There are songs, movies and drinks that defile our bodies and our spirits. There are places we go which defile us. There are relationships we keep which defile us. We must avoid anything that doesn't glorify God. We must not take any sin for granted no matter how small it may appear.

In Daniel 3, Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego decided not to bow nor worship the graven image made by the King. They would rather die than to sin against God. They chose to be holy even when their lives were at stake. How far are you willing to go to stand for God? Do you easily compromise on your purity?

Without holiness, none of us will see God(Hebrews 12:14). You can be very regular and active at church, you can be very faithful in paying tithe and offertory. You can be kind and charitable. But if you are not holy, you won't see God.

Let's take a stand for holiness. Let's wake up every morning and choose to reject sin and be holy for God. It is a daily choice we must make. God is a Holy God. If we want to be where He is, we must be holy too. Stay blessed.
