BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: CONTENTMENT
SCRIPTURE: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-7
"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out".
Welcome to BWC. Contentment is a mental state of satisfaction. Contentment is a godly attitude. In a world full of greed, selfishness and lust for money, contentment has become very rare. God however expects us to be content with whatever He has given us.
The desire to get more than we need fuels evil. We came into this world empty and we will certainly leave empty. So why the so much crave for material things? We all desire to be comfortable in this world but serving God isn't about seeking self-comfort. Jesus Christ and even the disciples never sought comfort in this world.
Lack of contentment is a sin against God. In the Gospel of Matthew 6, Jesus commanded us not to worry about material things. Worrying is a show of lack of trust in God. Despite Jesus' command, we still spend a lot of time worrying about our physical needs. God knows how to take care of His children.
We need to be content with whatever God has blessed us with. We must not have a lustful desire for the things of this world. All the things we are desperately craving for in this world are things we will surely leave behind one day. The only thing that really matters is serving God in obedience.
Lack of contentment makes us not to appreciate the blessings of God in our lives. When we constantly seek for more and more, we don't get to appreciate what God is doing in our lives. The desire for material things takes our attention away from God.
As humans, we certainly can't live without material things. Material things are not necessarily evil, but these things should never become our priorities in this world. We must seek first the Kingdom of God. The Lord has to be our priority. Nothing must take the place of God in our lives.
Brethren, let's learn to be content in whatever situation we find ourselves. We must continue praying and trusting in God to deliver us from all negative situations. But worrying shouldn't be our daily attitude. God certainly knows what we need and He is well able to take care of us. Godliness with Contentment is a great gain.
PRAYER LINE
Lord, I am thankful for all that you have done in my life. Amen
