TOPIC: TAKE HEED LEST YOU FALL

SCRIPTURE: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:12

"Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall".

Welcome to BWC. 1 Corinthians 10:12 is one of those scriptures you read and you need to pause to do a self search. Paul's warning to us is so direct and precise. If you think you are standing in the Lord, be careful you don't fall. Is it possible to fall from the Lord? Yes, if it were not possible, Paul wouldn't have warned us.

What is falling? Falling can come in two forms for a believer. The first is what many of us experience; temporarily falling for sin. The second is complete backsliding from the faith by a believer. Whether it is about temporary giving in to a sinful temptation or permanently backsliding from the faith, we need to be careful.

THREE REASONS PEOPLE FALL

1. PERSECUTION

When people are attacked or put under immense pressure because of their faith, they are likely to fall if the pressure gets too much for them.

2. DIFFICULT MOMENTS

It is always difficult to fully trust in God when you are faced with difficulties like financial meltdown, chronic illness or loss of a loved one through death. If we don't hold on firmly to God in difficult times, we are likely to fall.

3. LOVE FOR THE WORLD

Another reason some believers fall is when they love the things of the world more than God. A Christian cannot love the material things of the world and still love God. Any time we desire the carnal things of this world, we are likely to fall for sinful temptations.

Falling by itself, though it is bad, to remain fallen is worse. We need to stand firmly and hold on to Christ if we don't want to fall. In case you are experiencing a fall now, please repent and get back to God immediately.
