BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: DOERS OF THE WORD
SCRIPTURE: JOSHUA 1:8
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success."
Welcome to BWC. How often do you read your Bible? Do you practice what you read? For some of us, the Bible is just a book full of nice stories. Some also see the Bible as a historical book. For others too, the Bible is just a fictional book. The Bible is neither a story book nor a fictional book nor a history text book. The Bible is the True Word of God.
After Moses passed away, God called Joshua and gave him a series of instructions. The most important of them can be found in Joshua 1:8. Let's break down God's instructions to Joshua. There are some lessons we can learn from this scripture.
1. READ AND MEDITATE ON THE WORD OF GOD DAILY.
In the first part of the instructions, God told Joshua " This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night". Simply put, make sure you read God's word, but reading alone isn't enough. You need to spend time to meditate on what you have read. You are not supposed to do this weekly, nor monthly. God told Joshua to do it day and night-every day.
2. PRACTICE GOD'S WORD
God told Joshua, it is okay to read the book of the law, it is okay to meditate on it daily but most importantly, you must practice what you read. There is no need reading the Word of God if we will not practice it. The Word of God isn't an information book. It is an instruction manual for us, and instructions are meant to be obeyed.
3. THE FRUITS OF OBEYING GOD'S WORD
In the last part of God's instruction to Joshua, God told him, "for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." For us to be successful in this life, we must obey God's Word in totality. We cannot choose to obey some parts and disobey other parts of the Bible.
So many of us are busily asking God to speak to us but we hardly open our Bibles. The Bible is the voice of God. If you want to hear from God, just read your Bible and meditate on it every day. Most importantly, you must practice what you read. The Word of God covers every aspect of our lives.
If you have been reading the Bible once in a while, today, I encourage you to spend time every day reading the Bible. God wants to talk to you every day. You must obey the instructions of God and you shall have good success in this world. Stay blessed.
PRAYER LINE
Lord, please help me to read your word and practice what I read. Amen.
