BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: THE RESILIENCE OF MORDECAI
SCRIPTURE: ESTHER 3:2
"All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay him honor".
Welcome to BWC. Today, we look at how one man dared to stand for God. The beautiful story of Mordecai can be found in the Book of Esther. Mordecai was a Jew who like other Jews was in a strange land. One day, the king made a decree that all his servants must bow and pay homage to Haman. Everyone bowed except Mordecai.
Mordecai was a man who knew the Almighty God. He decided in his heart that he would not give the worship of God to a mere man. This angered Haman greatly. So he planned to kill Mordecai and all the Jews in the kingdom. He prepared a place where he will hang Mordecai. He also made an elaborate plan on how to eliminate the rest of Mordecai's people.
But God intervened. God never fails anyone who dared to stand for Him. At the end, Haman rather was hanged at the place he prepared for Mordecai. The king also honored Mordecai greatly and the Jews were given power and they prospered. All these blessings would not have happened if Mordecai had bowed to Haman.
I believe God is looking for people in this generation who will dare to stand for Him no matter the pressure to conform. Today, we face so much pressure to conform to the things of this world. A lot of believers have left the faith and have backslided. They simply couldn't reject the attractions of this world.
Are you standing for God or you are bowing to the temptations of this world? Mordecai didn't stand for God because it was easy to do so. Even when his life was threatened, he still refused to bow to Haman. At the end, God didn't disappoint him. God elevated him and blessed him.
If you stand for God today, you might lose some friends, some people will insult you and laugh at you, your life may even be threatened, but God will never disappoint you. Never. Just as God came through for Mordecai, He will also come through for you. He will never let you be put to shame.
Meshack, Shadrack and Abednego also dared to stand for God and God came through for them. It is always difficult standing for God. But today, decide in your heart that you will stand for God and not bow to the sinful attractions of this world. If you can stand and be faithful, God will never disappoint you. Stay blessed.
PRAYER LINE
Lord, please give me the strength to resist sin and stand for you. Amen.
