Breakfast With Christ - Slaves Of The Cross

BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: SLAVES OF THE CROSS

SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 6:18

"You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness."

Welcome to BWC. A slave is a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another; a bond servant(Dictionary.com). Several times in the letters of Paul, he described himself as a bondservant/slave of Christ. From the ages gone even up to now, the concept of slaves isn't new in our societies. Wealthy men bought other people to serve them. These people become their slaves.

For us Christians, we are not slaves of any human being but slaves of God. Slaves, not in the negative sense of the word. Of course, God doesn't abuse us nor force us to work for Him. We are slaves because we were bought with the Blood of Christ. We don't belong to ourselves. Neither our bodies nor our lives belong to us, we are wholly for God. We belong to Jesus Christ.

On the Cross, Jesus gave us His righteous nature and took upon Himself our sins. Anyone who accepts Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross becomes a "slave" to the Cross. Slaves, because we are bonded to Christ through the Cross. On the Cross, Jesus Christ won for us our freedom from sin and made us slaves of His righteousness.

We were once slaves of sin. We sinned because we were born in sin. Sin was part of our nature until we got born again. Now, Christ has transformed us from being slaves of sin to slaves of righteousness.

As slaves of righteousness, we are duty bound to obey God at all times. A slave doesn't do what he/she wants, a slave strictly lives by his/her master's commands. As slaves of God, we cannot live the way we want. We can't just obey what our feelings want or what our bodies desire. We need to always obey the voice of God.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we need to always remember that our Master paid the ultimate price for our sins. Hence, we need to live for Him and for Him alone. Nothing more, nothing less. We can't simply sin because it is convenient to do so, slaves don't live in convenience, they live in obedience.

If you are a Christian but you have been living just to please your flesh desires, please it is time to repent and recommit your life to the One who died to save you. You're not a slave of sin anymore, sin must have no control over you. You belong to Jesus, you must live to please Jesus.

We must walk in righteousness, holiness has to be our standard. May the Spirit of the Lord guide us to be faithful to our Master, Jesus Christ. Amen. Stay blessed!
