Breakfast With Christ - Developing A Christian Character (Part 3)
BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: DEVELOPING A CHRISTIAN CHARACTER (III)
SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 8:29
"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
Welcome to BWC. This is the third part of our series on Developing a Christian character. In our previous BWC, we looked at how the Holy Spirit helps us to develop a Christian character after being born again. Today, we look at our role in this development.
Even though developing a Christian character is a process the Holy Spirit initiates in us, we have our part to play in this process. To develop a Christian character, there are three things we must do:
1. CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
In Romans 12:2, Paul encouraged us to renew our minds. Our minds form the battleground of our lives. Whatever we do emanates from our minds. A lustful and negative mindset will produce the wrong character. We cannot develop a Christian character if our mindset is still worldly.
We need to first develop a godly mindset if we are to develop a Christian character. As followers of Christ, we need to focus on God and God alone. Our focus has to be on spiritual things not the carnal things of this world. We need to develop a godly mindset that puts God first in all we do. Our desire shouldn't be to fulfill our carnal pleasure but to please God.
If you can change the way you think, you can change your life.
2. READ AND MEDITATE ON GOD'S WORD
Nothing changes a man's life like the Word of God. To develop a Christ-like character, we need to feed on God's Word every day. Only the word of God has the power to change our mindset and change our life. The Word of God has all that we need to develop the right Christian character.
Feeding on God's Word must be a daily habit not a weekly activity. If we spend time to read the Bible and do all that God commands us to do, our old character will eventually be transformed into a Christ like character.
3. BE DISCIPLINED
A Christian cannot grow without self discipline. Our flesh will always desire carnal gratification whiles our spirits will desire God. We need to be disciplined enough to always choose to obey God. Avoiding temptations require a lot of self discipline. Basically, to put off our old sinful character and develop a Christ-like character, we need to be self disciplined to say NO to sin. When we are tempted to go back to our old ways, we need to be disciplined enough to say No.
PRAYER LINE
Lord, please help me to become more like you. Help me to grow in you. Amen.
