TOPIC: THE CLEAN SINNER
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 19:5
"When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
Welcome to BWC. Today, we look at the story of Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector. Tax collectors were people who collected taxes from the Jews on behalf of the Roman government. The tax collectors were some of the most hated men in the Jewish society because they often cheated the people.
Zacchaeus is a Hebrew name which means "clean or pure" but Zacchaeus' didn't reflect is name. He was a gross sinner. Zacchaeus was a short man but he was determined to see Jesus. He climbed onto a sycamore tree to see the Saviour. When Jesus got there, He called Zacchaeus and Zacchaeus came down and received Jesus into his house. This displeased the people who wondered how Jesus could stay with a sinner like Zacchaeus. In the end, Zacchaeus received his salvation and repented.
Zacchaeus had physical and societal limitations but that didn't deter him from trying to see Jesus. He went great length to see the Savior and Jesus rewarded his determination and desire. There were a lot of self righteous people following Jesus but He chose to go to the house of Zacchaeus, a sinner. Today, let nothing stop you from coming to Jesus Christ.
Zacchaeus was much hated by the society but He was loved by Jesus Christ. When Zacchaeus met the love of Jesus, he repented and got saved.
The way the society sees you isn't the way God sees you. You might be condemned by the society but God loves you. It doesn't matter what people think, just live for Jesus Christ.
Friend, today, Jesus wants to come and make His home in your heart. It doesn't matter the state of your heart. It doesn't matter what you have done or haven't done. You might feel condemned and too filthy for God but God doesn't see you that way. God loves you. Just as Zacchaeus did, if you can make that effort to come to Jesus, He will turn your life around. The Lord is knocking on your heart, please open up and receive Him today. Stay blessed.
