BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: ROYAL PRIESTS

SCRIPTURE: 1 PETER 2:9

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

Welcome to BWC. In the days of old, under the old covenant between God and the Israelites, God established a priestly line in the nation of Israel. Under the Aaronic or Levites priestly line, the priest is the only person who approaches God on behalf of the people. This order however changed with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By virtue of His ultimate sacrifice on the Cross, all believers have been made priests to God.

Our Pastors, Reverend Ministers and men of God are our God chosen leaders but they are not our representatives to God, under the New covenant, we all have equal access to the throne room of God. In our scripture today, Peter described the believer as a royal priesthood, so what are some features of royal priests?

SET APART

In Peter's epistle, he described us as people who have been called out of darkness. Every believer in Christ has been called out of darkness, set apart and washed with the blood of Christ. We were not called out of darkness only for us to go back to the darkness. God redeemed us so that we will walk in holiness before Him. Sin destroys us. As Priests of God, we need to make holiness our focus. There has to be a difference between a believer in Christ and a non believer.

SACRIFICE

As priests of God, we have been set apart to offer sacrifices to God. The first and foremost sacrifice we all need to offer to God is our lives. We need to wholly offer our lives to God as living sacrifices. Our lives belong to God, a believer cannot just live anyhow. Our bodies belong to God, we cannot use it as and how we please. We need to also offer sacrifices of praise and worship to God with our mouths.

TEACHERS AND MEDIATORS

One important feature of priests is that they teach people about God. We as priests of God are to teach this world about God and His salvation of mankind. We need to preach Jesus to the world. Priests are also mediators. We need to intercede for people. We need to pray for others.

Brethren, these are some of the features that must mark our lives as Priests of God. If you are a Christian, you are a priest, God expects you to live as His priest. Are you living as such? Stay blessed.
