The Fruit Bearing Christian
THE FRUIT BEARING CHRISTIAN
Every tree that needs to bear fruit must bear fruit in its season. Every farmer expects that the fruit bearing tress he plants, bear fruit in their seasons. An orange tree which does not bear fruits in its season is useless and unproductive.
As Christians, Jesus commanded us to bear fruits(John 15:1-8). According to Jesus, He is the tree, God is the caretaker of the tree and we(christians) are the branches. God expects that every branch in the tree bears fruits.
In John 15:2, Jesus sounded a warning "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit...". What the Lord is saying is that if you are His follower and you don't bear fruit, He will cut you off. The truth is it is not enough just being a Christian, our lives must bear fruits for God. God as the tree Caretaker has provided all that we need to bear fruits for Him, we don't have any excuse.
In John 15:8, Jesus said "By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples". In short, we cannot be disciples of Jesus Christ without bearing fruits. To bear fruits for God is to do something with your life that will bring glory to God. So what must we do to bear fruits?
√ Abide in Jesus (John 15:4)
To bear fruits for God, we need to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the tree, we are the branches, we need to be connected to the tree to bear fruits. It is not enough to just go to church, please have a relationship with the Lord.
√ Obedience (John 15:10)
To bear fruits for God, we need to live in obedience to the word of God. We need to obey all His commandments. When we do this, it please God and He gives us the Grace to bear fruits.
√ Depend on Jesus (John 15:5)
Without Jesus, we can do nothing. The branch cannot bear fruits without the tree. We need to completely give our lives to Jesus and depend on Him totally to bear fruits.
It is only when we bear fruits that we are disciples of Jesus Christ. We are God's investments, every investment must yield results. Our lives must bear fruits for God. Our lives must bring glory to God.
