Breakfast With Christ - The Fruit Of The Spirit
BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
SCRIPTURE: GALATIANS 5:22-23
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Welcome to another Breakfast with Christ. In our last breakfast, we looked at how the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirits and transforms us from being sinners to saints of God. Today, we will look some evidence that proves the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
In Paul's letter to the Galatians, he listed nine(9) products of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. It is important to note that the Bible calls these products "fruit" not "fruits" which means once a believer has the Holy Spirit, this "Fruit" will be produced in the person's life.
The fruit of the Spirit is produced by the Holy Spirit not the believer. A believer's spirit cannot on its own produce such fruit. Let's look at this fruit:
1. Love: A believer who has the Holy Spirit will show genuine love towards God and other people.
2. Joy: The Holy Spirit produces in us true joy. Not a joy based on circumstances but joy in the Lord irrespective of our circumstances.
3. Peace: The Holy Spirit gives us peace in a world full of troubles.
4. Long suffering/patience: It always difficult to be patient with God but the Holy Spirit helps us to patiently wait on God.
5. Kindness: The Spirit gives us the ability to be kind to all.
6. Goodness: just like kindness, the Spirit gives us the ability to be good to all people.
7. Faithfulness: on our own, we cannot be faithful to God. But the Spirit gives us the ability to be faithful in our walk with God.
8. Gentleness/Meekness: The Spirit gives us the Grace to be gentle even in the face of the worst confrontation. Gentleness is also about being humble.
9. Self control: To be able to reject sin and live for God, the Spirit gives us the ability to exercise self control. Self control is saying Yes to God and saying No to sin.
It is very important to note that the Holy Spirit doesn't develop this fruit in us overnight. It takes time. We need not to worry if we don't see all these products in our lives now. Let's continue to yield to the authority of the Holy Spirit and He will perfect His work in our lives. Stay blessed.
