BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: FAITH LIKE A MUSTARD SEED
SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 17:20
"He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
Welcome to BWC. It is incredible that the minimum faith Jesus requires of us to do great things is a faith as small as the mustard seed. Now, the mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds found in many places including the Middle East. The mustard seed is only 1 to 2 millimeters big. This seed however germinates into an incredible tree. This was the thrust of Jesus' comparison.
We often hear people telling us to have big faith but God isn't even requiring big faith from us. All He wants is the smallest of faiths. The question isn't about whether you have a big faith,the question is "do you even have any faith at all?" So how do we even possess this small faith? The answer to this is in the book of Hebrews.
"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists..." Hebrews 11:16. This is it. The beginning of faith is to believe that God exists. That is all that is needed really. If we can believe truly in our hearts that GOD EXISTS, then our faith can do wonders. Do you believe? It is so easy to say YES but our belief in God is tested in the times of trouble.
Many a time, we pray to God from a position of doubt that is why we sometimes don't get answers. This is how some of us think "OK, I need God to do this for me, let me just pray and see if He can do it". This is not faith. If you truly believe God exists, then you should believe that there is nothing He cannot do. Don't pray to test God's power, pray to affirm God's power in your life.
The thing is, if God exists then what can't He do? Don't pray to see if God can heal you, pray and know that He has healed you. The faith God requires of us is for us to believe that He exists. That's the smallest faith you can have. If you can completely believe without any doubt that God exists, your faith can do wonders. It sounds easy but it isn't that easy. May God help us.
