FROM OBSCURITY TO GREATNESS: THE STORY OF GIDEON
The story of Gideon recorded in Judges 6-8 in the Bible is an interesting one. Due to the evils of the Israelites, God gave them to their enemies who oppressed them. They cried out to God and God decided to save them. At this time, the Israelites were living in complete fear. God then decided to use a young man called Gideon to save the nation.
One day, an angel of the Lord met Gideon under a tree and addressed him as a "mighty warrior". Gideon, however, at that point was anything but a mighty warrior. But that was how God saw him. Gideon started the conversation by questioning the presence of God in Israel. The angel was however not upset.
When the angel told Gideon about God's plans, Gideon, like most of us do now felt he wasn't qualified for the job. Gideon was in essence telling God that: Look, Mr Angel, you came for the wrong candidate. This was Gideon's profile when the angel met him: his clan was the least in the tribe of Manasseh and Gideon was the least in his family . In short, Gideon was a 'nobody'. But he was the one God wanted.
By the time God was done with Gideon, Gideon became a very successful Judge of the nation and a mighty warrior who led 130 men to defeat 135,000 soldiers in battle. This story of Gideon teaches us some important lessons. Let's look at some of them.
√ The way God sees us is different from the way we see ourselves.
√ God has a plan for each one of us.
√ Our obscure family background or personal weaknesses don't scare God.
√ God believes in us even when we don't believe in ourselves.
√ We need to obey the Will of God.
Today, I want to inform you that if God could use someone like Gideon to accomplish great things then God can also use you. It doesn't matter who you are or what your weaknesses are. God can use an ordinary person to accomplish extra ordinary things. All God needs from you is a heart which is willing to obey Him. Don't look down upon yourself, you are very important to God.
