TOPIC: THE WONDROUS CROSS
SCRIPTURE: JOHN 3:16
"FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON..."
For centuries, a lot of people have no problem accepting the personality of Jesus Christ. What they can't accept is that Jesus died on the Cross for the sins of humanity. Yet, Jesus death on the cross and resurrection changed the course of human history. For the next few days, our BWC will focus on the Passion of Jesus Christ, ie His death and resurrection.
THE CROSS OF LOVE.
As indicated in our scripture for today, the reason God allowed His Son to come and die was because God loves the world. The Cross of Jesus is therefore the Cross of love. As a result of the sins of Adam and Eve, humanity desperately needed a Saviour. We were condemned to perish. To save us, God sent His Son to pay the price for our sins.
Was it necessary for Jesus to die? Yes! God in His holiness cannot tolerate sin. But God also loves human beings. However, no one was worthy enough to pay the price for the sins of humanity. So Jesus was Incarnated by the Holy Spirit and born to Mary. Since Jesus wasn't born through the seed of Joseph, He was born sinless. Hence, only He could die for the sins of humanity.
The Cross of Jesus showed two sides of God; justice and love. On the Cross, all the sins of humanity was laid on Jesus. It must have been very hard for God watching His Son in such sinful state yet God's love for humanity is so great that He kept Jesus on the Cross. God hates sin yet He loves us.
The penalty that was paid for our sins was a heavy one. We need to respond to such an amazing love by accepting Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross. If we continue to live in sin, then Jesus' sacrifice would have been in vain. Let's give our lives to Jesus and live for Him.

Lord, I am eternally grateful that you came to die for my sins. Thank you Lord for the Cross of love. Amen.
