BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: WHO IS JESUS CHRIST? (PART 5)
SCRIPTURE: 1 JOHN 2:1
"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One."
Welcome to another BWC. Today, we continue with our series on "Who is Jesus Christ?".
JESUS IS OUR ADVOCATE
Advocate is a loose term for a lawyer. A lawyer represents his/her client in court and speaks on the client's behalf. In today's scripture, John is telling us that as Christians, we have a 'Lawyer' in Heaven who speaks on our behalf anytime we sin.
Even as Christians, we are not perfect. God doesn't want us to sin but when we do sin, there is no need to wallow in guilt and stay in the sin, we need to confess and repent because we have an advocate who will plead with the Father to forgive us.
One of the reasons some of us Christians continue living in our sins without repentance is because when we fall, we feel we have disappointed God so we find it hard to go to God and ask for forgiveness. The truth is God is merciful, He isn't angry when we fall but He wants us to come back to Him and repent.
Let us remember that anytime we sin, Jesus, our advocate is there to plead to God on our behalf. Is this a license to continue living in sin? NO! Sin destroys us. God wants us to walk in holiness, however, since we are not perfect, we will fall once in a while. When this happens, we need to quickly repent. If we truly love God, we won't live in unrepentant sin. Stay blessed!
Prayer line:
Father, thank you for forgiving me anytime I sin. Please help me to walk in holiness. Amen.
