BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: BLESSED ARE THE PERSECUTED
SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:10
"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
The dictionary defines persecution as "hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs; oppression". This clearly means one can be persecuted for several reasons. So not all persecutions fit into Jesus' message for us. The only persecution Jesus was referring to is when you are persecuted for the sake of Jesus Christ.
A cursory look at the acts of the Apostles as recorded in the book of Acts will show us the kind of persecution Jesus was talking about. Stephen was stoned to death for his faith, James was beheaded, other disciples were also killed. Paul himself experienced a lot of persecution for his faith in Jesus. The truth is if you stand for Jesus, the world will hate you.
In this modern time too, some Christians in some parts of this world are being persecuted and even killed for their faith in God. Some of us however, might not be experiencing these extreme persecutions for our faith. But we all certainly have our own persecutions. For some, the persecution is coming from their friends, others it is coming from their family and for some it is coming from their work place.
Whatever the persecution is we need to stand strong in the Lord. We don't need to give up, we don't need to compromise. Not everyone will accept your faith. Some will laugh at you or even insult you. But let's remember that if we should hold on till then end, we shall inherit the kingdom of Heaven. May God give us strength. Stay blessed!

Lord, I am happy I belong to you. Please give me the strength to stand all persecutions that I may face because of my faith in you. Amen.
