Breakfast With Christ - Spiritual Hunger

BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST

TOPIC: SPIRITUAL HUNGER

SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:6

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled".

In our previous BWC we started looking at Jesus' sermon on the mountain popularly called the 'beatitudes'. Today, let's take a look at another section of that sermon.

In our scripture for today, Jesus spoke about a very important attitude that every Christian must possess. The attitude of spiritual hunger. Have you ever witnessed a man who is hungry for food? A hungry man will do anything just to eat and satisfy his hunger, same us a man who is thirsty for water. That's exactly what Jesus is expecting from us.

We need to develop some hunger and thirst for righteousness. To be hungry for righteousness is to be hungry for God. To understand spiritual truths and walk with God, we need to have a hunger for the things of God. The reason most of us don't know much about God is because we are not hungry enough.

The hunger for God will make us prioritize God in our lives. The Hunger for God will make us cut away some habits so that we can spend much time with God in personal prayer and Bible reading. No hungry person reads his/her Bible only once in a week. No hungry person prays only once in a while. The desire to spend time in the presence of God is an indication of spiritual hunger.

No spiritually hungry person spends his time focusing on worldly things. Until we develop the hunger and thirst for God, we won't have a personal relationship with God. When we develop that hunger, Jesus promised that we will be filled. Stay blessed!

Prayer line:

Lord, please help me to develop the hunger and thirst for you. Amen.
