BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: ARE YOU ON DUTY?
SCRIPTURE: 2 Timothy 2: 4
"No Soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him."
One key determiner of how disciplined a soldier is on the battlefield is his vigilance. In other words, alertness, because he has made it a point to accomplish his master's command successfully. I don't think as a good soldier he would get drunk, or perhaps make business calls in the heat of war or before going on duty. Proverbs 31: 4/5 tells us why Kings aren't supposed to indulge in strong drinks else they pervert their judgement against the poor or needy.
We would all agree how the soldiers of the ancient Roman empire and other similar empires, legitimately carried about their military affairs with no indulgence, care and interests outside their profession. So should it be with the earnest and faithful Christian worshipers.
Timothy, Apostle Paul's protegé in whom he was well pleased, received the above passage from his master. They were words of admonishment to him (and others like him) to disengage himself from any secular pursuits, and disconnect himself from any worldly business and pleasures.
Friends, there's no way secular pursuits could be an absolute blend alongside Christianity. They would be unequally yoked, an upside down arrangement and an error that needs to be corrected (2 Corinthians 6: 14).
Remember you are on duty for God on earth, make it a point you don't defile yourself with any ungodly business, else you get corrupted and end up being killed/ destroyed as an unskilled soldier. As true soldiers of Christ, we need to pursue holiness and our priority should always be to please our master, Jesus Christ. Be blessed and stay on top.
Prayer line:
Father, please help me to always stay faithful to your word and serve you faithfully. Amen
