BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: PRAYER part 2
SCRIPTURE: 1 Thessalonians 5:17
"Pray without ceasing"
Yesterday, we started our mini series on prayer. We looked at what prayer is. Today, we will proceed to look at the importance of being consistent in prayer.
In Paul's letter to the Thessalonians, He admonished them to pray without stopping. To pray without stopping doesn't actually mean we must pray must pray for 24-hours each day without stopping. Paul was rather admonishing us to pray consistently.
The more we spend time in prayer daily, the more we gain strength to overcome all situations.
Consistency in prayer is needed to achieve daily victories in Christ. A lot of us just pray to God once and when we don't get any response, we give up and stop praying. Such attitude won't make us grow in our relationship with God. It is very important that we persevere in prayer.
In Luke 18:1-4, Jesus narrated a story of a widow and a wicked judge to perfectly illustrated the need for us to be persistent or consistent in prayer. The only reason the judge agreed to grant the wish of the widow was because she was persistent with her request. The woman didn't just made her request and went to sleep. She wouldn't have gotten any result if she had given up. Unlike the wicked judge, our God isn't a wicked father but He wants us to consistently pray.
When we pray consistently, we are less prone to sin. Consistent prayer doesn't have anything to do with the duration of our prayer sections but the frequency of those sections. How frequently do you pray? Let's do away with the mentality that when we pray without ceasing we are disturbing God. Our prayers can never disturb. In fact He wants to hear from us every day.
Beloved, what are you facing today? What do you want from God? Have you prayed about it? Please don't just pray once and stop, continue praying consistently and God will answer you. Stay Blessed.
Prayer line:
Lord, please help me not to ever give up on my prayer life. Please help me to persevere in my prayers. Amen
