BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: PRAYER part 1.
SCRIPTURE: Colossians 4:2
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful"
Almost all of us have prayed before. From infancy, we were taught how to pray. But what exactly is prayer? What is the power in prayer? Why is prayer so important? How must we pray? These are some of the questions we will be attempting to answer in our mini series on Prayer.
From Sunday school, we were taught that prayer is a communication between man and God. But prayer is more than just communicating with God. Prayer is a relationship we establish with God. Prayer connects man's spirit to God. Prayer is an invitation to God to intervene in a situation. To establish a strong relationship with our Maker, we need to continually pray to Him. When we pray, we submit to the sovereign authority of God. We receive strength from God when we pray. Prayer isn't merely uttering some words to God and going your way. Prayer is a supernatural connection with God. When pray, God responds. The issue is that most of us don't have the patience and time to listen to God's response.
Prayer keeps our spirits active. Humans engage in physical activities to exercise our bodies and keep fit. Prayer is the exercise for our spirit. It is impossible to be weak spiritually when you devote your time to prayer.
One major part of Jesus' ministry on earth was prayer. Jesus was fully God and man on earth. He could have decided not to pray. But Jesus prayed consistently. There has to be something about prayer that will make the Son of God spend so much time praying. In fact Jesus spent a considerable amount of time teaching His disciples about prayer.
Prayer is so important in the life of every Christian that we can hardly survive without praying. As Apostle Paul said in our scripture for today, let's devote our time to prayer. A Christian who doesn't pray is spiritually dead.
Prayer line:
Father, please help me devote much of my time praying to you. Amen.
