Tertullian was born in Carthage, modern Tunisia in north Africa. Tertullian was not born a Christian, he became Christian when he was inspired by the martyrdom the christians were facing.

He was the first of African church fathers to write in Latin instead of Greek. He was one of the second century writers known as "apologist"who defended Christianity on intellectual grounds. Tertullion defended a lot of Christians against persecution from the Romans. He wrote on the divinity of Jesus and the trinity.
Tertullion was the first writer to invent the term "New Testament" to describe the latter part of the Bible. Tertullian is widely remembered for his fierce defence of the Christian faith at a time when the church was under serious attack.
