BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: FAITH AT WORK
SCRIPTURE: James 2:17
"So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead".
Our relationship with God is strictly based on faith. The Bible says without faith, it is impossible to please God. Faith is so important that, we can't receive anything from God without having faith. In the book of James, Apostle Paul introduced us to an interesting relationship between faith and work. According to Paul, our faith without action/work is dead. In the verses that followed, Paul raised some very good points to explain his assertion. So what is the relationship between faith and work?
To understand the relationship between faith and work, let's look at a biblical example. In Mark's Gospel(5:25-34), Mark recounted an encounter Jesus had with a woman with an issue with blood. The woman's story typifies how faith and work relate. The woman had faith that Jesus could heal her, but her faith didn't end in just believing, she went ahead to touch Jesus' garment, thats work. The pagan woman had faith in Jesus and showed the faith through her actions. That was faith at work.
Faith isn't just about believing, faith is taking steps to act on your belief. If you have faith, show it. A story was told of a man who was sick and bedridden for a long time. During this period, the man prayed everyday for God to heal him, but he still continued to lie down and nothing happened. One day, an angel appeared to him and told him God has heard his prayers and has answered him. The issue was that the man hadn't acted on his faith. The angel told him to get up and put his faith to work. The next morning, the man got up and for the first time in several months,he was able to walk. He had faith in God healing, but he never put his faith to work until an angel told him to. Faith is believing, work is acting on what you believe.
Brethren, if we don't act on our faith, our faith is as good as dead. Faith without works won't produce results. It is not enough to have faith, we need to move beyond just that and begin to show our faith with our works. Are you sick? Do you believe God has healed you? Then stop behaving like a sick person and start acting according to your faith. A strong faith in God is a faith that is accompanied by actions. Let your faith work for you. Stay blessed.
Prayer line:
Lord, please help me to put my faith to work. Please remove any source of doubts from my life and help me to believe in you totally.
