BREAKFAST WITH CHRIST
TOPIC: IMITATING CHRIST (Part 3)
SCRIPTURE : John 13:4-5"so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him".
Today, I bring you the concluding part of our mini series 'Imitating Christ'. The past two editions. Of BWC have looked at how we can imitate our Lord's humble nature and His loving nature. Today, we look at how we can imitate His leadership style.
On earth, Christ practised servant-leadership style of leadership. A style which is hardy practised by our men of God today. Jesus showed leadership by example. He was a shepherd which led His flock and served them. Jesus showed us that to be a good leader, you must be a good servant too.
A typical example of Jesus' servant-leadership style is seen in our scripture for today, Jesus wanted to teach His disciples a lesson, so He led by example. He washed the feet of His disciples and dried them. After that He told them to do likewise to each other when He is gone. Jesus could simply have taught them this lesson without doing what He did. But He did it to teach us that being a leader isn't all about giving orders but also leading by example.
Brethren, if we are Christians then we need to imitate Christ and always lead by example. Most of us find ourselves in leadership positions either in the church or at our work places.
Let's remember that leaders are also servants. It is easier for your followers to follow your example than for them to follow your instructions. Let us be servant leaders. Let's serve people in all humility and in love as Christ taught us. Let's care for our followers and love them as Christ did. May God help us to be good leaders.
Prayer line:
Lord, I thank you for teaching me a lesson in being a servant leader. Please help me to lead people in all humility and love. Amen.
